Help your child fall in love with paddling this summer...
Adirondack summers and paddling go together like peanut butter and jelly, but paddling programs for ADK kids can be surprisingly hard to find. Luckily, SRCO is offering a week full of paddling fun for kids ages 8-11! We will spend the week learning to canoe, kayak, and SUP using an engaging games based approach. Our paddling week will also focus on water safety and rescues, helping your child feel more comfortable and safe during family paddling trips. Please note that this is not an overnight experience. The program is 8 to 5 daily. Some examples of daytime activities include:
- Playing games, and encouraging creativity by having the kids make up their own games both on and off the water
- Going on "journeys" where we will paddle to a location for lunch, learning some basic navigation along the way
- Nature scavenger hunts and nature bingo, encouraging kids to learn a bit about local flora and fauna
- Canoe and war canoe sailing
- "Boat swapping" on the water, which teaches the basics of canoe, kayak, SUP and multi-craft rescue
Details:
Location: We will spend each day at Fish Creek Ponds campground where we have a pavilion. Parents will have the option to drop off and pick up from there, OR from our store on Dorsey St for your convenience (we will drive them to and from the campground).
Dates and Times: August 11-15th 2025 from 8am to 5pm. Drop off can happen between 8am and 8:30am, pickup will be between 4:30 and 5pm (or earlier if arranged).
Ages: We are currently offering this program to kids 8-11. If you have a child who is nearly 8 or recently 12, reach out to us to discuss possibilities.
What is included? All transport, paddling equipment, canoes, etc. are included. You will need to send your child with a lunch, bathing suit, towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, and water (a comprehensive list will be provided when you register). Kids will be required to wear a life jacket any time they are in a boat or in the water. They can bring their own or use one of ours!
