Instruction

St. Regis Canoe Outfitters offers canoe/kayak instruction for all skill levels from beginner and beyond in flat water & river paddling up to class III. We also offer Backcountry Camping & Leadership Skills Classes If you are just getting started or want to fine tune your skills, we have a class for you.  We offer private group instruction for one day or multiple days, and have special programs for Women's/Office Groups, as well as classes for children including girl and boy scouts and school groups. All of our instructors are American Canoe Association certified, and have many years experience teaching the necessary paddling skills to become a better boater and to safely enjoy the sport for years to come.

Participants will recieve a participation card upon successful completion for the ACA classes listed below: 

Moving Water Clinic
This clinic is designed to help you improve your body and boat control, develop skills in reading the river, and learn ways to be more safety conscious in moving water.

Private classes for 1-2 people can be arranged with cost of $150 per person.

Cost: $69 per person for three or more people.

Class Ratio: Tandem Canoes: 6 students: 1 instructor. Solo Canoes: 5 students: 1 instructor. Additional students will be accommodated with an additional instructor or qualified assistant.

Quick Start Your Canoe (ACA)
This is a four-hour class is designed to introduce people to safe handling of your canoe, launching & landing your canoe, and basic paddling strokes and maneuvers.  Information on the paddling environment will include: wind, water, waves and weather.   Rescue responsibilities will be discussed and basic rescues will be demonstrated.   This course follows the curriculum of the American Canoe Association and is given by an ACA certified instructor. Flatwater Canoe Safety & Rescue (ACA)
This is a four hour class that introduces flat water safety practices and rescue techniques that can be performed with a minimum of equipment, in the first few minutes of a rescue. In addition to basic safety and rescue, this class includes:  communication and signals, swim skills, assisted rescues and tows and recovery of loose boats and gear.   This course follows the curriculum of the American Canoe Association and is given by an ACA certified instructor. Call ahead to schedule. Private classes for 1-2 people can be arranged with cost of $150 per person.

Adirondack Kid's Paddling Class
Great opportunity for your child to expand their paddling skills and gain both confidence and respect for the water environment.   This class teaches children (ages 5-8 years old) outdoor and paddling skills while having fun exploring the natural environment.  Call ahead to schedule. 

Minimum of 3 per class.  Maximum of 6 students.  Cost:  $55 per child age 5 and older.  Children ages 5-8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Women's  Backcountry Camping & Paddling
Two night expedition that introduces women to backcountry camping skills and basic paddling skills.  Emphasis on learning how to use different types of stoves, trying out different gear, mapping out routes.  This is a great opportunity to meet other people and network.  

Dates:  Friday-Sunday, July 13-15, 2018.   Call ahead to schedule other dates. 

Maximum of 6 people.  Minimum of 3 people.  Cost: $349 per person.

Outdoor Leadership
This one day (9am-4pm) class is great for anyone wanting to grow as a leader, whether it be in the office or outdoors.  This experiential class offers the opportunity to bond as a group while developing skills in managing group dynamics, decision making, trip planning and execution.   Can be geared to meet your groups needs.
