There are numerous day trips in the area. Here we have selected some of the more popular trips and packaged them with the necessary transportation to offer a discounted per person trip price. Day Trips in Saranac Lake from the Saranac Lake Base

The following trips: Rental cost is per person and includes transportation. Deduct 10% for parties of six or more. Children 12 or younger riding in center of canoes with two adults are half price. Customers must leave our base by 12:30pm for Trip 2, Trip 3, and Trip 5. Customer must leave our base by 2:30pm for Trip 1 and Trip 4. The maximum number of people for these trips is 20. Anyone paddling on the Saranac River (Trip 1 &  2) must have experience paddling in moving water and be confident in up to class I rapids.

Day Trips in the Floodwood Area from the Floodwood Base

The following trips: Transportation is required. Cost of rental is for rental boats only. Please call ahead of time to make a reservation, as advance notice is necessary to arrange transportation. The maximum number of people for these trips is 20.

If you are going overnight - nearly all of the areas around our bases provide free campsites.

The exceptions include State Campgrounds where a fee is charged. These areas are shown by shaded shoreline on these maps. These campgrounds include Rollins Pond and Fish Creek Ponds Public Campground near our Floodwood Base. Both of these are the traditional drive-in campgrounds.

Saranac Lake Islands Campground near our Saranac Lake Base, is boat only access & includes 2 lakes: Middle & Lower Saranac Lakes. If you are paddling from our Floodwood Base to Saranac Lake, you must reserve your site(s) in this campground at least 48 hrs before departure. Reservations for State campground may be made at 1-800-456-CAMP or online at, and go to NY State and then the campground name.

* Additionally, you must check in at the campground headquarters at State Bridge on US Rt. 3 prior to departure from our Floodwood Base. After Columbus Day and before May 15th this campground is open to public use at no charge. Regular backcountry regulations apply.

Note: If you are paddling downstream from the Permanent Rapids (top) access point to Franklin Falls Pond you should be confident in Class II+/III Rapids and be appropriately equipped. Additionally, we do not rent our canoes for use on Permanent Rapids.


 River & Rail Package

A great trip for your little ones. They experience the thrill of the train and the fresh air and beauty of the wilderness, all the while bonding with parents while paddling down river. A memory in the making for years to come.

Ride the Adirondack Railroad and Paddle the Saranac River - a great way to spend a day in the Adirondack Park. This train-paddle-train package starts at the Lake Placid Rail Station where you...

Take the train to Saranac Lake. From the Saranac Lake Station you walk three blocks to our base on the Saranac River. Board the canoes (or optional kayaks at an additional fee), and we include a map and all accessories. You paddle approximately 2 hrs to the Moose Pond Footbridge, where we pick up and return you to the Saranac Lake Train Station. Take the train back to your car at the Lake Placid Station.

Total time is 4 1/2 to 5 hours round trip.


$64 per adult, $36 for a child 12 years old or younger riding in center of another canoe, $54 for a child 12 years old or younger riding in the bow or stern seat of a canoe. $79 for an adult in a kayak, $59 for a child in a kayak, and $69 for a tandem kayak. Please be aware all prices are per person and include the boat rental and paddling accessories, transportation, and train ticket.

Call us toll free at 888-775-2925. We will need payment in advance. Please call by noon of the day prior.

Meeting Point:

Meet at the Lake Placid Train Station on Averyville Road, off Rt 73, just east of downtown. Your tickets will be waiting for you under the party's last name. Train leaves at 10:30am (be there 15 minutes early). You will arrive in Saranac Lake station at 11:15am. We will have you back at the Saranac Lake Depot for the 4pm train and you will arrive back in Lake Placid at 5pm to end the adventure.

Itinerary, Package Inclusions & Directions:

1. Get on train in Lake Placid and travel to Saranac Lake Station. From this station walk 3-4 blocks to the river and the St. Regis Canoe Outfitters Base. Directions: From the train station, take Depot Street left one block to Bloomingdale Ave and turn right. Go one block to Broadway and turn left. Go 1 & 1/2 blocks to Dorsey St and turn right, you will see the canoes and kayaks.

2. The put in on the Saranac River is right out our front door at our own private launch. The river quickly leaves the village after one easy rapid and passes alternately from pastoral to woods with fantastic views of Whiteface Mtn and the McKensie Wilderness Area. Total paddle time is 2 hrs. We will pick you up at the end and return you to the Saranac Lake Station.

3. Board the train for your return trip to Lake Placid.
