Saranac River - a great way to spend a day in the Adirondack Park. This train-paddle-train package starts at the Lake Placid Rail Station where you

  1. Take the train to Saranac Lake. From the SL station you
  2. Walk three blocks to our Base on the Saranac River.
  3. Board the canoes (or optional kayaks at an add'l fee) - (we include a map and all accessories) and you paddle approximately 2 hrs to the Moose Pond Bridge, where we
  4. Pick up and return you to the Saranac Lake train station.
  5. Take the train back to your car at the Lake Placid Station.

Total time is 4 1/2 to 5 hours round trip.

Train runs Wednesday through Sunday. Reservations must be made by Noon of the day prior.

If you are going overnight -- Nearly all of the areas around our bases provide free campsites.

The exceptions include State Campgrounds where a fee is charged. These areas are shown by shaded shoreline on these maps. These campgrounds include Rollins Pond and Fish Creek Ponds Public Campground near our Floodwood Base. Both of these are the traditional drive-in campgrounds.

Saranac Lake Islands Campground near our Saranac Lake Base, is boat only access & includes 2 lakes: Middle & Lower Saranac Lakes. If you are paddling from our Floodwood Base to Saranac Lake, you must reserve your site(s) in this campground at least 48 hrs before departure. Reservations for State campground may be made at 1-800-456-CAMP or online at http://www.reserveamerica.com, and go to NY State and then the campground name.

* Additionally, you must check in at the campground headquarters at State Bridge on US Rt. 3 prior to departure from our Floodwood Base. After Labor Day and before May 15th this campground is open to public use at no charge. Regular backcountry regulations apply.

Note: If you are paddling downstream from the Permanent Rapids drop-off point to Franklin Falls Pond you should be confident in Class II-III Rapids and be appropriately equipped.
